"What we can do for our world"
Ecology concept of the 4-star Hotel Kürschner
We want to be the forerunner in the field of
environmental conservation. This can be achieved through corporate management
presented and our guests
(together with all suppliers and firms we work
with).
We want to be a hotel which protects our ecosystem and
we want to convince our staff, local people and guests that gentle care in
dealing with our environment helps our natural world and most of all
mankind.
A
German proverb says: “Nothing good happens unless you do it”
The building
Our house is more than 230 years old and within the last years the
construction has been brought up to date ecologically. The character of the
hotel is the same, but with energy-saving measures.
We employ local craftsman from our valley. We build with wood from our region
which is treated only with beeswax. Our floor coverings are natural materials
like stone, wood or pure wool carpet. The furniture is wood without artificial
varnish, the windows are double and triple glazed.
Our rooms have temperature sensors which help save energy. Through colour and
light, we aim to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Catering
Since 1960 we have offered full organic catering. We only use local products,
especially from farmers in the Gail and Lesach valleys.
Our menu is seasonal, that means we use only fresh goods. During wintertime,
we use our own frozen produce and winter vegetables out of the greenhouse. Our
homemade fruit and vegetable juices are especially popular. You will find fine
wine on our lists and we keep in close contact with our wine growers. We inform
our guests and staff about nutrition and about health, nature and whole
foods.
Energy
We have municipal heat distribution (fuelled with wood pellets). Our cooling
plant, washing machines, air conditioning and sauna building use heat recovery
and a heat exchange. Our power supply is controlled through tension voltage
(Maxigraph) to reduce voltage. Each floor has its own heating system with
temperature sensor. Where it makes sense, we use energy-saving
bulbs.
Water
Most of the water supply comes from our own springs. Water saving fittings
and using the right amount of water in the lavatories helps us to save water
(Perlatoren). We use rainwater for watering the gardens. The new toilets have
water saving buttons. Towels and bed linen will only be exchanged at guests’
request.
Waste utilization and recycling plant
Waste utilization and recycling plant
We have an agreement with all suppliers - to send our goods with very little
packaging. Wherever possible, we purchase from farmers we know. We make many
products ourselves, like marmalade, juices, apple sauce and sausages. There are
waste bins in all rooms. Waste collection is optimised and organic waste goes to
a composting plant which produces valuable fertilizer for our
agriculture.
Outside grounds
Our gardens and fields are cultivated organically, as are meadows and
forests. Wet and drained biotope create a paradise for animals. Lettuce, herbs,
fruit and vegetable are all from our own organic agriculture. Parking is to the
side of the house.
Convenient holidays arragnement
Convenient holidays arragnement
Botanical or geological guidance, also visits by native wood carvers,
craftsmen and farmers, bicycle tours and walking tours, walking in rain, herb
collecting and seminars about herbs, picnics at alpine pasture, cross-country
running and lectures belong to our healthy way of life, as well as whole food
culinary art and relaxation exercises.
Health
Our holiday philosophy is based on 5 pillars:
- Nourishment
- Exercise
- Treatments and therapy
- Relaxation for body, mind and soul
- Organization of one’s leisure time and fun
Our spa and cosmetic products are natural products which we receive from
native firms (soap made of honey, herb baths…) or from farmers (whey, milk
fat…). We prepare special herb baths with hay from our fields and herbs from our
mountain meadows.
Staff
We motivate our staff to raise environmental awareness. Weekly staff
discussion and seminars help, so that our staff accept more responsibility. Our
business team includes Mrs. Klauß and an eco representative who is responsible
for all questions about our ecology.
Management family
We take time for our family and live realistically. We inform our guests and
staff about our eco initiatives and try to achieve ecological friendliness. We
do not smoke and are proud that most of our staff don’t either. We work together
with an environmental adviser and commissioner for nature preservation. For us,
ecology is an object of global importance and we run our business that way. We
have taken the initiative to develop a new eco model for agricultural and tour
companies in upper Gailtal.
